Recreation Specialist (Sports Coordinator)

Plans and administers a comprehensive sports program and related special events. Responsibilities include team sports programs and activities involving a variety of athletically-related recurring and nonrecurring activities such as special and intramural events. Promotes, organizes, and administers a Captain's Cup program. Schedules various tournaments and other sport events. Coordinates facilities and personnel required to support each program or event. Procures necessary equipment and supplies to support the program. Coordinates use of all athletic facilities and equipment associated with scheduled play or special events. Prepares requests for publicity material for scheduled sports programs and special events. Arranges and conducts clinics for all intramural sports. Develops guidelines, bylaws, and schedules for intramural league competition. Designs and maintains statistical records on teams and individual performance. Determines winners and runners-up (team and individual), sportsmanship, and most valuable players where applicable. Procures trophies, plaques, medals, and other awards. Evaluates the effectiveness of ongoing sport activities from the standpoint of participants' response, resources, metrics and program objectives. Prepares and submits required reports. Utilizes the latest technology to achieve program efficiency. Ensures that playing surfaces are properly maintained, safe and ready to play. Regularly inspects playing areas for repairs, cleanliness, etc. Provides suggestions for renovations or improvement to playing areas. Supervises up to 2 -- 3 full-time or flex NF-2 staff members and up to 2 seasonal laborers as necessary to coordinate events, facilities and equipment maintenance. May also supervise program volunteers. Supervision includes developing performance standards, preparing performance appraisals, discipline, recognition, originates personnel action requests for recruitment, interviewing and selection, training, developing the work schedule and approving leave. Actively supports and complies with all EEO and Affirmative Action Programs. Plans, develops and executes the annual program operating budget. Monthly or as needed, reviews financial reports, compares to budget and provides execution explanations for higher level review. Maintains an unfunded list of supplies and minor properties to assist in maintaining a balanced budget. Other duties as assigned. Qualifying experience must have been equivalent to the next lower level in the normal line of progression. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
