Qualifications GENERAL
Summary:
This is work as a trainee in classroom and in-service activities in the police service.
Under immediate supervision, participates in classroom instruction and field training in police techniques and practices.
Work is reviewed by written and practical examinations and by observation for suitability for public safety work.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND
Responsibilities:
If certification as a Peace Officer has not been issued by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE):
attends recruit training courses providing classroom and field instruction in basic police procedures, techniques and laws including lectures, practical demonstrations and participation in courses covering areas such as patrol science and criminal investigation, criminal and traffic laws and airport ordinances, use of weapons, preparation of records, public relations and fundamental principles of psychology and sociology.
Participation in and successful completion of the field training program.
Respond to calls for police service to all locations on the airport; make preliminary investigations of criminal offenses; assist citizens and passengers to minimize inconveniences; assist with lost and disabled vehicles; enforce airport code, traffic regulations and criminal violations; assist other Public Safety personnel.
Enforce federal, state, and local laws, ordinances and resolutions, making arrests and issuing citations as appropriate.
Investigate offenses, accidents and suspicious circumstances or persons, collect evidence, interview witnesses, and prepare reports.
Deter persons who might engage in illegal activity through active visible patrols.
Provide law enforcement support to the passenger and baggage screening process.
Report any hazard to persons or property to the proper authority to ensure correction.
Actively patrol both public and restricted areas in support of the Airport Security Program.
Assist other DPS divisions in the mitigation of threats to life and property.
Stop and investigate all suspicious persons, vehicles, or circumstances.
Proactively engage the airport community in constructive dialogue fostering positive relationships in support of the department's community policing philosophy.
Report and seek resolution to all offenses reported and observed.
Pursue and apprehend escaping prisoners or felons.
Aid outside police agencies when assistance is needed.
Perform police work in a patrol car, on a bicycle or motorcycle, or on foot.
Perform police work utilizing specialized equipment including but not limited to radar, special weapons, audio/video systems, and other equipment in support of law enforcement.
Patrol remote and terminal parking areas to prevent criminal acts against employees and passengers, property, and vehicles and apprehend violators.
Perform investigations including, but not limited to, criminal, administrative and traffic investigations.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
One of the following:
Completion of 30 college hours from an accredited college or university.
Received of an honorable discharge from the armed forces of the United States after at least 24 months of active duty service.
Holds a current Peace Officer license issued by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) with less than two (2) years of experience as a sworn full-time paid police officer; or Current licensed Peace Officer in another state with less than two (2) years of experience as a sworn full-time paid police officer.
Twenty-one (21) years of age at date of application.
United States citizen.
Pass a written examination.
Pass the Physical Ability Test (PAT).
Pass a psychological examination.
Pass a truth verification examination and/or polygraph.
Pass a background investigation which includes criminal and driving records checks.
Pass an Oral Board Interview.
Pass a medical physical examination and drug test.
Possession of a valid Class C driver's license issued by the State of Texas or equivalent from another state in which the recruit permanently resides.
Must be able to testify in Municipal, County, State and Federal Court.
Must obtain a Security Identification Display Area (SIDA) Airport Identification/Access Badge in accordance with Department of Homeland Security Transportation Security Administration (TSA) requirements in Chapter 49 of the Code of Federal Regulations Part 1500 et al.
, and DFW Airport's Airport Security Program within thirty (30) days from date of employment and maintain qualification for a SIDA badge upon each badge renewal.
Must obtain Department of Homeland Security Customs and Border Protection (CBP) security access clearance within thirty (30) days after passing the state test and maintain qualification for CBP security access clearance upon each CBP security access renewal.
This is a designated safety sensitive position as defined in DFW Airport's Drug and Alcohol Administrative Policy and Procedure.
Applicants selected for this position will be required to pass a drug test prior to employment and to submit to drug screening on a random basis during the length of their employment in the safety sensitive position.
This is a designated Essential Employee position as defined in DFW Airport's Categories and Classifications Administrative Policy and Procedure.
An essential employee is one whose attendance is required to maintain airport operations during an emergency or inclement weather situation.
Must meet all initial and recurrent training requirements in accordance with Title 14 CFR part 139 and Administrative Policy AO.

01, Ground Vehicle Driver Training for Air Operations Area (AOA) within 30 days of assignment to a driving position and before being permitted to operate the vehicle without the direct supervision and presence of a co-operator qualified under this requirement.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Ability to meet requirements and standards to be accepted by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) for Enrollment and Initial Licensure.
Ability to successfully complete the applicant processing requirements as prescribed by the Department of Public Safety.
Ability to complete acceptable standards in classroom and field training within acceptable time or trial limits established in the department's training procedures.

Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.
